College Prep Biology I and Honors Biology I

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Honors Biology I is designed for students who excel in science.

Topics include cellular processes, DNA and RNA, cell reproduction, heredity and genetics, evolution, classification, ecology, and an overview of the six kingdoms.  Required lab investigations and special projects supplement this course.

The objectives of Biology I are to introduce the prospective science major to the scientific method as it applies to Biology.

This course is designed as a basic course in anatomy, zoology, and botany.   The concepts of the cell, meiosis, mitosis, life cycles, diversity of the plant and animal kingdoms, genetics, bacteria, viruses, and human biology will be discussed.

This course provides a foundation for Advanced Placement Biology and students planning to major in science at a 4-year college.

College Prep Biology I offers a balanced presentation of all levels of biological organization to include: cellular biology, cell growth and reproduction, protein synthesis, genetics, taxonomy, and an overview of the six kingdoms.  Lab experiences are structured to enhance lecture material and to provide first-hand observation.

This course will count as a lab science for college entrance requirements.
